This leads to failure time and time again and it is not necessarily their fault. Your investment in your employees should be a business core value and should be communicated well and often.

The third key piece for your business's success is rewarding your employees for great performance of their work duties and fulfillment of or exceeding the expectations set out for them. You and your employees should each set and agree with a set of measurable and reasonable performance goals for a specified evaluation period, say 6 months or a year, and set up reasonable compensation adjustments for reaching or exceeding those goals as well as consequences for not reaching them.
